Rob and I met while attending high school at Milton Academy in Milton, MA. I spent summers (even in utero!) on the rocky shores of Midcoast Maine; my ultimate happy place and haven. Every summer was filled with crabbing, sailing lessons, nature walks, swimming in 60-degree water, boating, and consuming lots and lots of local ice cream. Maine has become such a special place for the both of us. Rob proposed at sunset in our favorite spot at Newagen Seaside Inn. I’ve known since I was younger that I wanted to be married in Maine. Specifically, Newagen Seaside Inn, where I was a flower girl for my aunt many years ago.

We tied the knot on July 4th weekend and turned our celebration into a four-day extravaganza! It meant so much to my family and I to share this slice of heaven that has been a generational summer escape over the years. The weekend kicked off with a BBQ at our home on Southport Island with family and friends. For our rehearsal dinner, we chose a traditional Maine lobster bake on the back lawn at Newagen Seaside Inn; all our guests raved about it! We then greeted our remaining guests in The Pub for a casual night of sipping cocktails, while some guests gathered around the fire pit into the evening. Newagen was sure to delight when it came to local Maine fare, and seafood was the highlight! We selected a raw bar for cocktail hour, as well as a seafood entrée for the reception, and most guests opted for the surf and turf.

For the ceremony, we kept it simple with some aisle decorations, white runner, and a driftwood arbor adorned with garden roses and greenery. We didn’t want to distract from the picturesque ocean backdrop. One of the most unique parts of our ceremony was how my dad and I arrived. Taking advantage of the waterfront, I wanted my dad to not only walk me down the aisle, but arrive together by boat; we enjoyed a boat ride like we have so many times, but this one was special.

In Maine, there is a saying that if you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes. Maine is notoriously known for quickly changing weather patterns. As the weather forecasted for rain showers, I checked-in with our wedding coordinator at Newagen, Sandy Timberlake, nearly every 30 minutes to discuss and confirm outdoor ceremony and reception locations. There is nothing more unnerving than making contingency plans for rain on your wedding day. But the staff at Newagen were amazing and came up with a solution to our outdoor cocktail hour, due to the higher chance of rainfall during that time. For the ceremony, we said “I do” as planned, oceanside!

We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend to tie the knot with our closest friends and family! Thank you, Sandy, and the staff at Newagen Seaside Inn for a perfect celebration to enjoy with our guests.
