What Makes Newagen Seaside Inn a Unique Getaway?
The History of Newagen
Newagen Seaside Inn began welcoming guests over 200 years ago in 1816. Resting on the majestic shores of Cape Newagen, formerly known as the “Cape of Good Trading,” an exclusive summer colony began to expand. Famous guests—including Maine governors and vocal icon Frank Sinatra—have made our lovely hotel their summer home. Unfortunately, the original inn burned to the ground in 1943, an act of World War II pyromania (or so the legend goes). Soon after, however, the community united. Within three months a new inn was built, and Newagen Seaside Inn was reborn thanks to the village of Newagen.
Sociable Lobster Bakes
Maine lobster reigns supreme, so why not celebrate these delectable sea creatures with a weekly lobster bake? Every Tuesday evening, during July and August, guests line up to crack open Maine’s premier fresh lobster, steamed in seaweed over an open fire the traditional way. We only use the best fresh Maine lobster and local ingredients. The feast also includes local sweet corn on the cob, red potatoes, chowder, salad, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, and mussels! Top it off with a piece of blueberry cake or craft your own s’more around our firepit.
Crackling Fireside Tales
Every summer, on Wednesday evenings, guests congregate around a crackling bonfire for a night of stories and s’mores! Catch a stunning coastal sunset before the stars take over the northern sky. We book local and regional storytellers to share their craft with our fortunate guests. Cozy up next to a loved one and enjoy the firelight and starlight.
Rowboating, Swimming, and Bicycling
Hop aboard one of our complimentary rowboats and explore the surrounding shoreline. The rocky beach, blue water, and active birdlife are sensational on Cape Newagen! Spending an afternoon poolside—for those aiming to remain ashore—at our saltwater swimming pool is the ideal way to stay fresh on a warm summer day. Explore the lush 20 acres of secluded oceanfront forest on a classic cruiser bicycle. Hop off and trek through our labyrinth of nature trails featuring tall firs, bright wildflowers, and unique fiddlehead ferns. Many guests choose to bring their mountain bikes, which we encourage! A trip around Southport Island is a perfect way to spend an afternoon in Boothbay Harbor Maine.
