4 Can’t-Miss Summer Festivals in Maine

Summer in Maine is a breathtaking time. The air is warm, the countryside is lush, and colorful sailboats dot the horizon all season long. Beyond all the things to see, Maine summers are full of things to do. Many of the best Maine fairs and festivals fall between June and September each year. Four of our favorite festivals in Maine are right here in the Boothbay Harbor region by Newagen Seaside Inn. So when you’re not touring lighthouses or cruising along the coast, stop by these can’t-miss events for good food, music, and company.

Boothbay Harbor Windjammer Days

The Boothbay Harbor Windjammer Days have been an annual tradition for more than half a century. It’s our way of celebrating the beginning of summer. This full week of Maine fairs and festivals includes live music, a golf tournament, parades, games, fireworks, and more. When you stay at Newagen Seaside Inn, you can be close to all the excitement of Windjammer Days so that you don’t have to worry about missing a thing!

The Pemaquid Oyster FestivalDamariscotta Oysters

If you love fresh seafood, the Pemaquid Oyster Festival is for you! This annual September event has live music, boat trips, and informational demonstrations. In addition to touring the best oyster farms in Maine, you’ll feast on Damariscotta oysters all weekend long. If you don’t want to venture out, don’t worry, you can order oysters off the menu at our restaurant, The Pub.

Boothbay Harbor Fest

Every Labor Day weekend, the Boothbay Harbor region celebrates the end of the summer season with Boothbay Harbor Fest. It’s one of the best festivals in Maine because of the variety of events and attractions. There is a half marathon, a 5k, a nautical-themed fashion show, a cocktail competition, and plenty of food to go around. With so many options, there’s something for everyone at this weekend celebration. Visitors travel from all over to join the community in eating, drinking, and having fun at Boothbay Harbor Fest.

Claw Down

Claw Down is all about the world-famous Maine lobster. It’s one of the best festivals in Maine because it celebrates two of our favorite things: coastal Maine’s cultural heritage and those tasty crustaceans. There are fifteen chefs in the competition, but only one can be crowned Claw Down Chef of the Year. There’s also a tasting event with a People’s Choice Award—who will you vote for? After piquing your appetite at one of the best festivals in Maine, return to Newagen Seaside Inn for an authentic Maine lobster bake, held every Tuesday during July and August.
